If life isn't crazy enough let's throw a puppy in the mix! Honestly we know it sounds crazy to get a puppy when you have just found out that your son has a rare disease and you life is being thrown upside down, BUT after lot's of consideration we felt that Orson's disease should not stop our family's life goals. Markus and I have always dreamed of owning a dog (me specifically a German Shepherd) so when the opportunity came calling we felt it was a sign.
A woman I know through Young Living was selling her new German Shepherd puppies and they had 3 females left, and they were a great price! After talking with her she told me they had a perfect fit for our family, Goldie (so named for the golden bell around her neck), she was the most gentle of the pups and we both agreed would then be perfect to be around Orson.
I spoke with Markus about it and we agreed to do it, why not right?! So a couple of weeks later I went and picked her up and brought home our very first family pet, Lucy.

It wasn't easy in the beginning, Markus was away in Germany so luckily my lovely sister in law spent the weekend with us helping take care of Lucy while I took care of the kids. Once Markus got home we set a strict puppy training regime in place and in no time Lucy is the best thing to happen to this family.
She is Lionel's best friend, he wakes up every morning asking where she is and he has started to help care for her as well. Even Markus and I have benefitted very much from having her, she has become something of a therapy dog for us, giving us kisses and a snuggle when life gets too overwhelming.
We love our Lucy Goosey and couldn't imagine our family without her, not that it hasn't been tough but it is all worth it to call her part of the Herzog family. We love you Luce.
