At one of our very first visits to ErinOakKids for physiotherapy we were told about For the Needy Not the Greedy, a not for profit organization out of the Niagara area that supplies used home medical equipment to children for free. When Orson was in need for specialized equipment, a stander, special stroller (wheelchair), bath chair, etc... we were dismayed at the incredibly lengthy process. That is when desperation led me to reach out to For the Needy Not the Greedy and see what they were all about.
What an incredible experience, we were welcomed with open arms and warm hearts. The founder was there and came over to chat with us about what he has built to help the people who are in desperate need and are the most financially vulnerable. Being our first time there we were allowed to take home 2 pieces of equipment (whatever we wanted) for FREE with the promise that when we are done with them we will return them for another family to use. With a lot of different devices to choose from and many options of different makes and models it was a little overwhelming but everyone was happy to help and we were allowed to roam free and take our time. We brought home the most perfect stroller (while we waited for the one we ordered to be ready) and a bath chair so that Orson could enjoy the beach and kiddie pools. We said goodbye and were given great big hugs on our way out the door, the companion from this family was overwhelming, they truly just want to help.
If you, or someone you know ever needs home medical equipment and don't have funding or aren't able to pay full price please spread the word and let them know about this wonderful organization.
